ANNUAL REPORT 2006

 

THE CENTRE’S OBJECTIVES

Ø      To provide community, social recreational and welfare services to

             those elderly person who needs it’s services, irrespective of races,

             color, creed, language or religion.

Ø      To provide the basis or core services laid down by the Ministry of

 Community Development, Youth and Sports as essential to a

 Seniors Activity Centre.

Ø      To provide social and recreational programmes and activities for

 the elderly residents to enable them to lead a more fruitful and

 meaningful social lives.

Ø      To provide care and support services, such as befriending, mutual

 help schemes, emergency alert response calls, guidance advice,

 referrals and information.

Ø      To provide a warm, familiar and receptive environment for the

 elderly users who are welcome to drop by all times during its

 operating hours.

Ø      To refer any matter pertaining to marital, health financial status to

 the relevant Organisations and or Social Service agencies.

Background

 

            The Redhill Moral Seniors Activity Centre was set up by the Chee Hoon Kog

            Moral Promotion Society in November 1995. It was registered as a charity on

            19th April 1996 with the Commissioner of Charities. The Centre was officially

            Declared open on 26th September 1998 by Mr. Abdullah Tarmugi, Minister of

            Community Development, Youth and Sports.

 

            The Centre looks after the needs of the elderly residents living in and around

            Blocks 89/90 Redhill Close.

 

            Advisers        Mr. Ch’ng Jit Koon, Former Senior Minister of State.

                                  Dr. Ow Chin Hock, Former Mayor & Minister of State

                                  Mr. Tan Chin Siong, MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC.

 

 

            Review of the Year 2006

           

            As at 31st December 2006, the occupancy rate of the elderly household from

            from Blks 89/90 Redhill Close was 332 and all of them registered with the

            Centre.There are also 46 elderly residents from neighbouring blocks registered with

            the Centre.Total elderly residents registered is 386 and made up of 186 males and 200

            Females, of which 48 are on Public Assistance.

            Apart from the daily activities of meals service, TV viewing, letters

            Reading, newspaper reading, they also have daily group exercises,

            Karaoke session, Bingo games and many others.

            Schools with their CIP Programmes also play a part in contributing to

            the activities, where students helps out in house cleaning, interaction

            with elderly, stage shows, singing and have games with them.

 

            The centre have continued support from Members of Grassroots,

            Religious Organizations and generous donors like CPIB,  Youth

Challenge, Church groups and some individual donors who provides

lunches,  parties and outings for the elderly through the years.

 

            Public Assistance recipients and the frails, home-bound elderly also

            receive meals, rations and “Ang Pow” through our centre’s programmes.

            The Centre updates the elderly’s Profile data of which we are able to

            celebrate their birthdays on a monthly basis, and also keep tap of their

            doctors appointment, apart from this we also extend our duty to monitor

            their medication intake.

 

            SPECIAL EVENTS IN 2006

         

1.   “Community health ambassadors programme for seniors” on

14th January 2006

 

2.   Youth Challenge and their volunteers gave a Steam Boat Dinner

at Chinatown Square on 27th Jan 2006. Each of them also received

$10.00 Ang Pow.

 

3.   Famous Hong Kong Actress Ms. Nancy Sit with few Media Corp

Artist visited our centre to celebrate Chinese New Year with “Lor Hei”

On 8th Feb 2006 with 75 elderly. Each of them were given 3 “Ang Pow”

from individual Donors.

 

4.   Home Nursing Foundation celebrate their 19th Seniors Night Dinner

On 12th Feb 2006 and 80 elderly residents were invited for the celebration.

 

5.   The centre organised a MRT ride tour to Changi Airport on 22nd March2006.

 

6.   “Police Week Carnival” at the Police Academy on 9th June 2006. The Police
Volunteers give out $10.00 coupon to the elderly participants for games and food
.

 

7.   On 26th July 2006, Singapore Buzzoni gave a demonstration

Of “ noodle making ” to 40 elderly residents at the centre.

8.   The centre organised 7th month celebration on 8th of August 2006 with

the elderly. It is an interaction and bonding event for all residents.

 

9.   MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, Mr. Sam Tan and grassroots leaders celebrated

“National Day and Birthday” with the elderly at the centre on 12th August 2006.

10. On 16th August 2006, the residents was given a foot message by qualified

Visually handicapped masseurs from Singapore Association of the visually

Handicapped (SAVH) 

11. Once a month the centre organised a cake and kueh making event,

After making all can enjoy their fruit of labour.                      

 

12. A group of elderly from “Yah Community College” visited our Centre on
30th Sept 2006. They were given a briefing of the activities of the centre,
and have chit-chat
Session with the elderly, also a visit to some of the elderly home.

 

13. On 13th Oct 2006 students from Singapore Management University celebrated

Mid Autumn Festival with the elderly, an event promoting inter-generating gap.  

14. On 25th Oct 2006, Grassroots leaders and staff visited the homes of elderly

Regarding the “ Progress Package “ and explaining to them.

 

15. On 5th November 2006, Students of International Community College

and St. Ignatius Church Volunteers celebrated Christmas with the elderly

a buffet lunch was served and also had a small gift from the students.

16. On 21st Nov 2006 the Centre in partnership with five others Organisations,

namely Radin Mas CCC, Bukit Merah CCC, Henderson RC, Redhill Garden RC

and Love & Unity Establishment volunteers celebrated “Senior Citizen’s Week”

with the elderlys. An event of community bonding, racial harmony and culture value.

They were given buffet lunch and dinner, fun and games.

 

17. On 27th November 2006, SAF boys from Ayer Rajah Camp came to the centre

To interact with the elderly, an event of intergeneration gap and bonding.

 

18. On 9th December 2006, the students, lectures from Singapore Polytechnic

had an events of community bonding with the elderly residents, they have

games and interaction with the elderly and also do house cleaning.

120 students also assist in the data survey of the residents from blks 89/90

Organised by the centre.
